Last week we discussed how there is a battle for the mind and how we need to be alert and ready to have our thoughts under submission of the Lord Jesus. I will add an excerpt from Part 1.
What most people don’t recognize is that there is a “Battle” being fought every day. That battle is for the control of our mind. I say sometimes that whoever controls our thoughts and the actions that are expressed through those thoughts wins. Even though our sin separates us from God, he put into our heart a desire for the “Truth”. So Satan will at all costs try to skew, confuse and deny absolute truth divinely placed before us by God. Whether it is Creation, Salvation, Jesus’ Deity, Marriage or living a holy life before God. Satan will try to confuse. But we have God’s Word to give us the Truth! So, “How do we fight”?
We laid out some very important Scripture but we can find in Ephesians Chapter 6 a detailed plan to combat the attacks against truth and our mind. Let’s look at Verses 10 – 13.
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
I believe the first thing to see is the correlation that we are in a war, therefore we are a soldier. That’s why this Scripture is so applicable to understanding the battle for truth that is going on in the World. We quickly see that we cannot do this under our own power. Led by the Holy Spirit the Apostle Paul writes that we are to be “Strong in the Lord and in the power of his might”.
This shows that we are to trust in the Lord Jesus and be surrendered to him to allow him to control our lives. We also quickly see that we are not to be passive in this battle as we are commanded to “Put on the whole armor of God”. This means to clothe ourselves, to be completely covered in and we are active in this state.
What does the Armor of God protects us from? Well, what does any type of battle armor protect a soldier from? The enemy! Who is our enemy? Satan! We need to realize that Satan is a formidable opponent. The Scripture tells us that he is slick, sneaky and he will wait to find us at our weakest point to attack.
So we see in Verse 13 another warning to “Take unto you the whole armor of God”. This is in relation to the point that you carry this with you. We are never to be without our armor! Because every day holds its own temptations and its own struggles but with the Armor we can make it a priority to do all we can to stand firm in this battle.
Join us next week as we start looking at each part of the Armor of God and its uniqueness for the battle.
