Battle for the Mind – Part 3

Ephesians 6:14

Standing therefore, having your loins girt about with TRUTH, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.

As I mentioned last week we are going to start looking at the Armor of God piece by piece.   In verses 10 – 13 we are told we are in battle and that our battle is against the schemes of the devil.   It tells us we wrestle against rulers, authorities, powers of this present darkness and against spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places.

Then in verse 14 we are told “Therefore”, because this battle exists, we are: “Standing therefore, having your loins girt about with TRUTH, and having on the breastplate of RIGTEOUSNESS!”

In the Gospel of John, the Apostle John records the words that were spoken between Pilate and Jesus after Jesus’ arrest.   Pilate asks Jesus this question, “Art thou the King of the Jews”? Within that discussion Jesus tells Pilate that his Kingdom is not of this world.  So Pilate says, “Art thou a King then”?  Then this powerful dialogue takes place.

Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.

Pilate says these famous words that many people are saying today.  “What is TRUTH”?  And then he walks away.   That is a big question that many are asking today.  Jesus was very clear in what truth is.  It is not so much a “What” but a “Who”.  In the Gospel of John, Jesus makes this statement on which all of life holds on to.

John Chapter 14:6:  Jesus says, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life!

So to fight this battle we are talking about we must first be girted up with the truth.  The truth that is being talked about in Ephesians 6 verse 14 is the Gospel.   The Gospel is very clear.  Each of us are sinners and are in need of a Savior.   Jesus died for our sins and took God’s wrath upon himself for us.  But, we must Repent of our sins before a Holy God and turn from those sins putting our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

To fight this battle against Satan we first must be saved.  Our mind, heart and soul must be changed.  In 2 Corinthians 5:17 it says, “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things have passed away, behold, all things are become new”.

Another thing we must remember about Truth is that by definition Truth is exclusive.  What is true stands apart from everything else that contradicts it.  What is true gives us a definite and absoluteness to what is right and what is wrong.   In a world that continues to try to make truth relative we cannot reconcile that with Scripture.

To have a right relationship with God and to have Eternal Life there is only way that can happen.   That is to accept the truth I mentioned earlier.  We must repent and turn to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior because he is the only way to God.  Jesus is the only way that we may have forgiveness of our sins.  Jesus has declared what sin is and we must turn from it.    Jesus is what we need to fight the battle against Satan as we tries to deceive and blind us from what is Truth.
