Battle for the Mind – Part 4
Standing therefore, having your loins girt about with TRUTH, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.
We are going to break down this verse into two parts. We talked about Truth in the last devotion and now we are going to talk about having on the “Breastplate of Righteousness.
I believe one thing we will see here is that these are not really separate from each other. Once our eyes are opened to the Truth, that we are sinners and need the salvation provided by God through Jesus Christ his Son, there is more that takes place than God just saving us from Hell.
Read this verse from the Apostle Paul describing his salvation: Philippians 3:9 – And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
There are many other verses that show us that we are not made righteous through our repentance towards God and Faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. But it is the righteousness of Jesus Christ that is imputed to us as we are declared righteous as it is added to our account. God looks at us through his Son and Jesus death on the Cross and his Resurrection. You may also know this as Justification.
Then through Justification God sets us apart in the process of Sanctification to be used for him to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. We don’t just get saved and then that is it. One, God desires us to be a true Disciple, a true Follower. Two, we would want to serve and be used by God after what he has done for us.
Read this verse from 2 Timothy 2:21 – If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, [and] prepared unto every good work.
I know I have used a couple of large words but we must understand these to be able to Battle for our Minds against Satan’s attacks. Having on the Breastplate of Righteousness means we will put up barriers that will help shield off these temptations Satan brings. What does a Breastplate protect? It protects our heart. Jesus said in Matthew Chapter 15, that whatever comes out of the mouth shows us the heart of the person.
So not only will we protect ourselves from the temptations of Satan then as we seek to be Righteous then we will be useful for the master’s use as it says in 2 Timothy 2:21. God will not use a vessel that is not clean. Strive for righteousness that we all may be useful for the Lord.
In Christ Alone,
