Battle For The Mind – Part 5

Ephesians 6:15

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

We have learned from the previous verses that as we come into a right understanding of “Truth” it brings a change in our lives.   “Girting our Loins with Truth” is the knowledge, through the drawing of the Holy Spirt, that we see our need for Salvation.  Our eyes are opened to the truth of the Gospel and we repent of our sins and put our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

As we look at this verse we usually look at it as making sure we are proclaiming the Gospel.  But as we look at this verse deeper and in context of this passage of scripture it actually means something totally different.

Now, definitely we should be witnessing and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ as much as possible.   But what would have us prepared to do so?  Remember, this passage the Apostle Paul wrote is about being in battle and he is using something the people would understand of what a soldier would wear in that time.

The shoes were a vital part of the battle gear for the soldier.  The ability of the soldier to have a sure footing in battle was very important.    This is like building a foundation to give him a strength and a support for the battle at hand.  It is reported that the shoes of the soldier sometimes would have spikes on them so they could dig into the ground and brace himself.   Others would wear some armor, whether of iron or brass, to protect the feet during the march and even during the battle.

Likewise, the Gospel is a foundation we build off of for the battle against Satan.    So having the Gospel as our foundation we find that it is something that gives us strength, gives us a confidence and prepares us for the walk ahead as a follower of Jesus Christ.

So we prepare ourselves with what only brings peace with God.  The Gospel of Jesus Christ!  We must be prepared ourselves before we go.

Romans 10:15 says, “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

In Christ Alone,

Dale
